Review : Hollister Hayden Perfume

I’m not an expert at reviewing perfumes, but sure do know to pick the perfect ones to suit a given occasion. Yesterday I had been shopping the Reading Oracle center to buy some dresses for my India trip and was drifting through the Hollister store where I tried their perfume range and body mist. I was very impressed with the Hayden perfume.

It comes in a cute bottle with a string of cute beads and the Hollister signature logo and its priced at £25, which is well worth the price. It is small enough to fit in your travel case perfectly.

It has a sweet, floral scent with notes of mandarin, lotus blossom and cedar wood. Its a very feminine  breezy scent that makes you feel so sophisticated. I literally loved the scent the moment i tested it and wanted it to add to my perfume collection. It lasts longer but definitely not a 24 hour long lasting scent and definitely not one that is very heavy smelling. Its a mild perfume, and if you are one who is happy with the scent just lingering by you giving you that aura its a perfect one to buy. I would prefer wearing it during the evenings leaving you with an ethereal  whiff. In all this is my current favorite and perfect buy for the Spring.

That Office Canteen

Are you the one who has food in your office canteen.  If so, I would love love love to hear from you. How do you find the food to be?  Delicious, Tasty, Ok Ok, Edible???  Ufff.. Its been 10 years that I started working and trust me I have worked in various offices right from the start-up to the big giants and in various cities as well. I have not found a single office which caters decent food.  The standard of food  these food caterers serve are too low, often I skip food rather than having to eat it. The most hilarious aspect of this, is the caterers are so gutsy to know your feedback, post serving that horrid food.  Through these years I have seen many food stalls in office canteen that come and go, some looks so awful that just looking at it you will get the warning signal not to try it. Some make ardent effort to make the food look delicious and inviting that you fall prey to its looks and the moment to take a bite you know where you have landed..worst scenarios are where we did find bugs in the food, even post which there is no change.

My Canteen’s food today

Is it so tough to offer people basic healthy food that tastes good?  We don’t ask you for Michelin standard food, but something that I can eat and know I wouldn’t get a health issue the next day. Come one, we are the poor lot who can’t afford to cook at home on a regular basis due to various reasons. That serves as an advantage to these caterers who believe that no matter what, they still have people who consume what they have to offer, simply because we have odd work times, other commitments etc. To add to all this pain, most office are located in very remote areas where there are no other food alternatives like a good restaurant.

What do you think is a solution to such low standard unhygienic bland food that is thrown on our face everyday in office. Don’t we have an option, other than cooking ourselves? Have heard few saviors who provide healthy food options, at very high cost though. Are there any exceptions or is the cafeteria in your office good. Would love to know.

Our Flawed Education System

Tare Zameen Par was a movie that moved every audience even the ones with the thickest of skins. As you know that movie was about a kid who suffered dyslexia and struggled through our education system. I strongly believe that not only was it a struggle for some one with difficulty but our education system is equally a struggle for everyone who goes through and went through it. I spent my whole childhood and up until 21 years of age not knowing what I was studying but just bein told to believe that successful completion of this journey would enable me to land in a prospective career. So education to me and to many of us was a tool to survive and not a platform to acquire knowledge. Our whole society has embedded this thought deep within us that we must and should secure highest grade possible. This pressure is vested upon students right from the day they join the school, that rather than enjoying their learning they emerge as mere rank scoring machines who would just scan the book cover to cover rather than the contents. This is such a pathetic situation that students who don’t prefer going through this rat race are deemed inefficient and sidelined.

The whole education system has become a mafia that aims at sourcing money from the common man. There can be no end to this topic, as it’s spun around so many complexities and various parasites who benefit from the system who have altered the whole mindset of people about education, making them believe that it’s a race/competition where everyone should win. The precious childhood of our children are lost in mugging up the books rather than imagining, visualizing and observing the contents. Can’t blame our kids since the subjects are thought with an intent to score marks than alluring the students into the fascinating world of science or mathematics. It’s no wonder that after so many years of independence that India still struggles to promote make in India, as we as a country lack creative leaders. Unless everyone in our system changes right from our parents, the teachers, our society and our education system we can’t provide meaningful education to our children. It’s high time to stop looking at what the education could yield to ones future, to creating a learning experience that nurtures the students.

Dumbo’s Life Hacks

I ordered a wooden storage rack in amazon a week ago for my kitchen. This was a ladder type of a rack that looked super awesome. Don’t get me wrong that I have some sense of interior decoration.. I happen to see my sister buy that for her kitchen and so i just did what all software engineers do.. copy paste.. lol..

Again as you know, the problem that a s/w engineer face, the code that you copy after hours of googling, never works for your programme and throws up some stupid error which you take ages to solve or sometimes annoys you so badly that you start trusting your skill to write a code yourself.. DISASTER.. The same happened with me.. Pumped up by the look of the elegant storage rack I just amazoned and got the exact same one.. voila.. I spent the entire week dreaming how my kitchen is gonna dramatically turn around and how the storage rack is gonna solve all my kitchen clutter and add that oomph to my kitchen.. The rack did arrive today.. and I assembled it with using all my carpentry skills. Though it took longer than i assumed to get that assembled it was worth the time and effort.. It looked so cool.I carried it with all my might , its a four tier rack mind you, to the kitchen to place it on the kitchen table.. ERRRRKKKKK.. The rack doesnt fit between the ceiling and the kitchen table.. ohhhh nooo.. I ordered it all the way from Germany and to return it and get my refund.. just thinking of disassembling the ladder .. what have I done to myself…

Amidst all this chaos came my hubby, i wonder how he smells trouble whenever  I mess up badly.. he is always there at the end . to do an examination of the whole incident to identify who is the convict. I’m always the one who gives this smirky smile and looks like Dobby the elf post committing anything stupidly insane like this.. He asked ‘ did you take the measurements before you placed the order?’ ohhhhhhh THE MEASUREMENTS.. how did I not do that.. what on earth was I thinking.. I could only think of one reply to him ‘well… I just ASSUMED it would fit..’

I know most times we blatantly assume stuff and have opinions on things or people we hardly know, though not as stupid as something I mentioned above, which most times only causes uninvited trouble. Would love to hear such similar  incidents from you lovely people..

Passion Fashion

Cooking is my passion.. I love cooking and exploring new culinary skills.. I try new recipes every now and then and the thought of food makes me happy and I’m a huge foodie. But my cooking is just not limited to this.. Being a wifey  I need to cook day in and day out; cook 3 meals a day for myself and hubby and with added advantage of being the mom of a fussy toddler it’s an additional 4 to 5 meals . So in all I cook or push out on an average of anywhere between 5 to 6 dishes any given day. Do it enjoy doing it.. NAAAAAHHHHHH.. but dint I say cooking is my passion.. don’t I suppose to love toiling in the kitchen. This I believe is the fundamental mistake that most of us do..

In the current trend, we believe passion is the only factor that drives everyone towards a happy and fulfilling living. Agree that passion does play a huge part.. but its not end of the world if you don’t have a passion or don’t know what your passion is. Most important discovery of yourself should be ‘what makes you happy and content’.. it could be as simple as spending time with family to something as complicated as modern art. Passion need not necessarily yield you money.. People are crazy behind this funda that your carrier should be based on your passion. If this happens you are extremely lucky to work and earn by doing something that you love to do. If it doesn’t – no big deal -cause it clearly indicates that you have higher priorities and commitments, which hasn’t enabled you to chase your passion or you simply don’t know your passion. Both these scenarios are absolutely normal.

I have known people who have this fire under their bellies to do or achieve something.. which is awesome.. inspiring.. they go about becoming an entrepreneur , become successful, become rich, become their own boss.. and end up becoming too busy and worn out that they cant spend time with family or for themselves.and worked up.. this prototype would fit someone who is ready to go that extra mile ..Sacrifice their personal space and time and devote it towards their passion.. this prototype would not fit people who are messed up with their current job and want to start up something to escape from all the pressure driven work environment. They would only land up spending more effort and time along with money than their 9-5 job.

So its very important to prioritize and understand what makes you happy and which is more important considering the current space you are in. Just stay grounded and enjoy the simple pleasures of life rather than running behind illusions.

These last words by Steve Jobs is worth thinking about:

I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. In others’ eyes, my life is an epitome of success. However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to.

At this moment, lying on the sick bed and recalling my whole life, I realize that all the recognition and wealth that I took so much pride in, have paled and become meaningless in the face of impending death. In the darkness, I look at the green lights from the life supporting machines and hear the humming mechanical sounds, I can feel the breath of god of death drawing closer…

Now I know, when we have accumulated sufficient wealth to last our lifetime, we should pursue other matters that are unrelated to wealth…Should be something that is more important:Perhaps relationships, perhaps art, perhaps a dream from younger days

Non-stop pursuing of wealth will only turn a person into a twisted being, just like me.God gave us the senses to let us feel the love in everyone’s heart, not the illusions brought about by wealth. The wealth I have won in my life I cannot bring with me. What I can bring is only the memories precipitated by love.

That’s the true riches which will follow you, accompany you, giving you strength and light to go on.Love can travel a thousand miles. Life has no limit. Go where you want to go. Reach the height you want to reach. It is all in your heart and in your hands.

What is the most expensive bed in the world? Sick bed…
You can employ someone to drive the car for you, make money for you but you cannot have someone to bear the sickness for you.

Material things lost can be found. But there is one thing that can never be found when it is lost – Life. When a person goes into the operating room, he will realize that there is one book that he has yet to finish reading – Book of Healthy Life. Whichever stage in life we are at right now, with time, we will face the day when the curtain comes down.
